Une rencontre enflammée entre des matériaux, des cultures et des hommes
Dans le cadre d’une coopération transatlantique inédite, les designers brésiliens Nicole Tomazi et Sergio Cabral ont, avec le Centre International d’Art Verrier, célébré le mariage entre deux savoir-faire traditionnels propres à leurs pays d’attache réciproques : d’un côté la tradition du tressage de fibres végétales au Brésil et de l’autre, les gestes verriers français, depuis peu élevés au rang de patrimoine immatériel de l’humanité par l’Unesco.
TomaziCabral a invité les verriers de Meisenthal à souffler du verre en fusion dans des corbeilles et paniers issus de différents environnement naturels, collectés dans les 27 régions que compte le Brésil. Soumis à une fugitive épreuve du feu, chaque panier s’embrase, se consume et disparait parfois. Mais le verre n’oublie pas ni ne se repent. Il garde, imprimées dans sa chair, les empreintes de sa matrice végétale, tout autant que la mémoire des gestes des artisans brésiliens et français qui les ont mis au monde.
Impression, corpus de 27 pièces-fantômes en verre, illustre la posture de communautés créatives, qui à travers le monde, militent pour la transmission, la préservation et la remise en culture de savoir-faire artisanaux autochtones.
